So now you can no longer claim that you don't know what a duvet is. This type of bedding that was once uniquely European has now made it literally around the world and it will go by different names. In some places it's known as a duvet, others as a dyne or doona. It has been called a continental quilt and in Pakistan it is even known as a Ralli Quilt. Whatever the name, for many it spells warmth and comfort!
When it comes to bedding and everything that goes on your bed, it's really quite amazing. There are endless options for sheets, pillows, comforters, duvets, and all sorts of things. Speaking of duvet covers, should you really even worry about getting one?
As they are available in many sizes you can make your choice depending on the type of duvet that you have. The three main types of duvet covers are the twin, full, queen and the king. When you go to the market or if you are purchasing them online, make sure that you know the size of your bed. This is because you cannot buy a king size duvet cover for a small bed. On a similar note, you cannot buy a small one for a big bed. This will make your bed to look funny and not as elegant as you want it look.
It comes in a variety of materials, and we are going to look at some of the better options for your home. Cotton, or cotton blends will be a durable way to keep your comforter safe. It is going to be a cool breathable material that will suit any room or person, plus is great for those warm summer nights. Polyester is going to a bit of a cheaper material to go with, if prices are going to be an issue. It has the added bonus of being anti-allergy material, but it does not breath too well. For those cold winter nights, flannel is the way to go with your duvet cover. This material will keep you toasty warm, but for those summer nights you will need to switch it up as you will be dying of heat exhaustion.
These imports from Europe have become adapted bed mates by many American families. When these flat bed covers first arrived in the U.S. they were stuffed with feathers or down feathers from geese or ducks. Down feathers are the soft feathers under the top feathers nearest to the skin. Birds and fowls survive the harshest weathers with only their feather coverings.
A duvet, known in many countries as a quilt, is a thin yielding blanket with a soft filling inside. It's been there from bygone days serving the purpose of either a bed softener or a blanket in many parts of the world. Often there is confusion over the word 'duvet' because in the United States Duvet is referred to as the quilt cover as opposed to the quilt itself. Duvet-covers are used just like a pillow cover, to protect the duvet and keep it clean.
