A duvet, known in many countries as a quilt, is a thin yielding blanket with a soft filling inside. It's been there from bygone days serving the purpose of either a bed softener or a blanket in many parts of the world. Often there is confusion over the word 'duvet' because in the United States Duvet is referred to as the quilt cover as opposed to the quilt itself. Duvet-covers are used just like a pillow cover, to protect the duvet and keep it clean.
A duvet is popularly known as quilt. It is soft blanket with filling inside. It is used either as soft bed cover or as blanket to cover all over the world. There has been a slight confusion between duvet and duvet covers in many countries. In the USA, it is always referred as quilt, where as in some places duvet covers are used as any pillow covers. This would help them protect from dust and keep them clean. Duvets are part of the bedding arrangement. They protect the bed from fading as well. Beds often get worn out when we use it regularly. Hence quilts prove to be helpful. There are different types of duvet covers available with different designs and patterns. You also have double side or reversible designs. This will change the look of the bed.
So now you can no longer claim that you don't know what a duvet is. This type of bedding that was once uniquely European has now made it literally around the world and it will go by different names. In some places it's known as a duvet, others as a dyne or doona. It has been called a continental quilt and in Pakistan it is even known as a Ralli Quilt. Whatever the name, for many it spells warmth and comfort!
The only tricky part about having a duvet is getting the cover on, and the difficulty can be easily remedied with a few tips. Especially with king sized duvets, it is helpful to spread the duvet out completely flat on the bed. Turn the cover inside-out with the bottom seam of the duvet and the cover lined up. Through the duvet cover, grasp the corners of the duvet itself and lift your arms, allowing the cover to fall around the duvet. Shake it out while keeping a secure hold on both the duvet and the cover and secure it in place once it is completely encased. Duvet covers are a great investment for anyone hoping to protect their duvets.
Special duvet covers to battle the dust-mites. Asthma sufferers or allergy prone sufferers have a hard time keeping the dust-mites in check. Dust-mites are microscopic arachnids which thrive on dust especially in the down fillings of pillows and quilts. They comprise of almost 80% of the dust around the house!
There are also different fabrics used to make duvet covers. You can choose a fabric that will be perfect for the current season or the place where you live. For instance, a duvet cover made of cotton is perfect for warm areas because cotton is very comfortable. It 'breathes,' just like most natural fabrics. If you want a fabric that will keep you warm, cozy, and snug in winter months, you can buy a velvet cover. In really hot places like tropical countries, it is okay to use the cover by itself without the comforter to make it cooler. You can use it to cover the mattress.
